This
garrison flag is a replica of the original “Star-Spangled Banner”
that flew
over Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland, during the War of 1812.
On the morning of September 14, 1814, Francis
Scott Key, who was being held prisoner on a British warship,
saw the flag still flying after two days of heavy bombardment
by the British. He was inspired to write the verses that would
one day become the national anthem of the United States. The
flag measures 30 feet x 42 feet and has 15 stripes and 15 stars.
Each star measures 24” from point to point and each stripe is
24” wide. The original flag was made by Mary Pickersgill.
